Football playoff brackets set

Four of the county’s five high school football teams will have the week off after finishing up the regular season this past Friday.

The Platte County Pirates solidified their spot as the top seed in the Class 5 District 8 bracket and are the KC Suburban Conference White Division Champions. They will face the winner of St. Joseph Central and Winnetonka on Nov. 8 at home. The Pirates pounded Raytown 55-13 in the final regular season game at home this past Friday, Oct. 25. The Pirates led 48-0 at halftime. 

Junior quarterback Rocco Marriott completed 9 of 14 passes for 220 yards and three touchdowns to three different receivers led by Tres Baskerville, who caught three passes for 139 yards, which included a 78-yard reception for a score, and he returned a kick 86 yards for another score. Brayden Stevens and Brooks Hall each had a touchdown reception. Adam Gisler carried the ball only three times but made the most of those carries by picking up 77 yards and two touchdowns. Isaiah Seymour and Dayton Doll each had a rushing touchdown.

The Park Hill South Panthers will be the only local team in action as they will host Staley this Friday, Nov. 1, to take on the Falcons in the opening round of the Class 6 District 8 bracket. The winner of the game will take on No. 1 seed Park Hill the following week.

The Panthers earned the right to host the game by beating St. Joseph Central this past Friday, Oct. 25, 34-16 on the road. It was only the second win of the season for the Panthers. South opened the season with a home win over Grandview 38-8 but then lost seven straight contests.

The Park Hill Trojans captured the KC Suburban Conference Red Division Championship with a 45-15 home win over Oak Park this past Friday. The Trojans finished the regular season with a 7-2 record and a 5-0 record in conference. 

Senior quarterback Zane Thomas completed 28 of 39 passes for 333 yards and four touchdowns. Senior Gage Dorrell caught four passes for 188 yards and three touchdowns, which included plays of 81 yards and 70 yards to go along with a 30-yard play for scores. Braylon Agee caught 11 passes for 112 yards and a touchdown. Dante Dixon had a 71-yard punt return for a touchdown. Dixon also had two interceptions on defense for Park Hill. Daniel Easter led the ground attack with 50 yards on eight carries and a touchdown. 

The West Platte Blue Jays and North Platte Panthers will both open Class 1 District 4 play on Nov. 8. West Platte, the No. 4 seed, will host No. 5 Polo, and No. 7 seed North Platte will travel to No. 2 Milan.
