Platte County’s most decorated girls’ golfer finished her career with a 14th-place finish at the Class 3 State Championships Oct. 21-22 at River Cut Golf Course in Springfield.
Green shot an 83 on the first day and an 84 on the next day for a total score of 167. Teammate Grace Handke finished tied for 78th with a score of 110 on Day 1 and a score of 105 on Day 2 for a total of 215.
Head Coach Trevor Short said the weather for all three days, which included a practice round on Sunday, was great but was also hoping for some better results for his four-time state-qualifying senior.
“There were a few bounces here and there that didn’t go the right way, but Ella stayed true to form and handled the situations with great poise,” Short said. “The accomplishments for Ella are major, but when you’re passionate about something and put so much time and effort into something, sometimes the end results aren’t what you expect.”
Green has qualified for the state tournament all four years, is a four-time first-team all-conference and a four-time first-team all-district selection, and has been named to the all-state team twice. Green is a three-time conference champion. She is the first Pirate to be named to the all-state team twice.
“Ella Green has been an invaluable asset to the Platte County High School Golf Team,” Short said.
Short said if there was a “Most Positive Player Award,” Handke would win easily and has been a positive force for her teammates. Short is excited to see what she can do in her senior season next year.
“Handke had some great experience at the state level and will be sure to keep making progress on her golf games going into next season,” Short said.
