Both of the West Platte cross country teams can add conference champions to their team resumes after winning both competitions at Platte Ridge Park on Saturday, Oct. 19.
On the guys’ side, the key to winning was placing fourth through seventh, led by junior Noah Rees, whose time of 18:20.1 was good for fourth, followed by freshman Samuel Miller with a time of 18:27.6, and freshman Charles Trease, who finished with a time of 18:28.7. Senior Jonah McGivern finished seventh with a time of 18:38.6.
The Jays also got a Top 20 finish from sophomore Benjamin Pendergast, who finished 14th with a time of 19:09.1. Senior Thomas Deffet finished with a time of 21:26.7 and sophomore Wyatt Larsen finished with a time of 21:29.4.
On the girls’ side, all seven runners finished in the Top 25, with the first five claiming spots five through nine, led by freshman Katherine Carletti who finished fifth with a time of 22:10.2, followed by sophomore Caroline Ransome with a time of 22:13.0, and junior Addison Bailey, with a time of 22:16.6. Junior Payton Reber’s time of 22:32.2 checked in at eighth place followed by freshman Jersey O’Neal who finished ninth with a time of 22:32.7.
Junior Anna Cernekova finished with a time of 27:35.1, and fellow junior Gabriela Perez-Giraldo finished with a time of 31:53.6. Up next for both teams will be the Class 2 District 4 race also being held at Platte Ridge Park on Nov. 2.
