Nower leaves mark on Jays V-ball

The West Platte 2024 volleyball season ended last week, with one of its seniors hitting a significant career milestone.

The Jays lost in four sets to St. Joseph Christian in the Class 2 District 16 tournament opening round last Tuesday, Oct. 22, at Gower. West Platte took the first set 25-21 but then dropped the next three sets 25-12, 25-13, and 25-11. West Platte was the No. 5 seed in the tournament, while St. Joe Christian was seeded No. 4.

Jays’ senior Arianna Nower collected her 1,000th career kill during the match. Nower also ended her career with three school records, including kills at 1,005 and aces with 246. Nower also ended her career with a percentage mark of 24.3 percent.

Nower hit 31.7 percent of her kill chances versus the Lions and led West Platte with 13 kills, followed by fellow senior Gracie Carlson with six kills and sophomore Kaelyn Eades with four kills. Senior Zoe Stigman collected three kills.

Carlson led the Jays with two aces, while Eades and freshman Amber Rutherford each had one ace. Nower, Stigman, and Eades each had two blocks. Senior Hailey Peters and senior Sam Baker each were credited with a block. Senior Mara McGregor led the team with 15 digs and had two assists, followed by Peters, who had 12 digs. Rutherford had five digs and led the team with 22 assists.
