None of the three Powerball jackpot-winning tickets were sold in Missouri, but another big winner came out of Dearborn, Mo. The drawing for a record $1.5 billion grand prize on Wednesday, Jan. 13 produced $2.8 million worth of prizes for players in the Show-Me State, including 15 players who matched four numbers plus the Powerball to win $50,000 each. One of those $50,000 tickets was sold at the Trex Mart in Dearborn nearly three years after Mark and Cindy Hill bought a $587 million jackpot-winning ticket there.
Three winners will split the $1.5 billion jackpot with winning tickets sold in California, Tennessee and Florida.
A person has claimed the winning ticket from Dearborn, but it is still going through the verification process. The name will be released at a later date.
“All players should check their tickets closely,” said May Scheve Reardon, executive director of the Missouri Lottery. “There’s a good chance you might have won one of the game’s other prizes.”
In just more than a month, two $50,000 Powerball tickets and one Missouri Lottery jackpot ticket have been sold in Platte County.
Robert Bowlin, 60, of Platte City split a $4 million jackpot with a ticket purchased at the Trex Mart in Tracy, Mo. in early December. Jared Herrin, 33, won $50,000 playing Powerball with a ticket purchased at QuikTrip in Platte City on December 30.
The record Powerball jackpot grew from $40 million in November of 2015 to the first one of more than a billion by last week.
Missouri sold more than $60.8 million in Powerball tickets during that time period, meaning about $23.5 million from the sales will go to public education programs in the state. Missouri businesses also earned more than $3 million in bonuses for selling winning tickets.
