PH South wins district

The Park Hill South girls tennis team won the Class 2 District 15 title last week, defeating Oak Park 6-0 in the semifinals and St. Teresa’s Academy 5-0 in the championship game.The Lady Panthers will take part in the sectional round of the state playoffs Saturday morning against Lee’s Summit North at the Clayview Country Club in Liberty. With a victory, they would play either Liberty or Notre Dame de Sion at 1 p.m. in the quarterfinals at Clayview Country Club. The state semifinals and title game will be played Oct. 24 in Springfield. Adele Royle also won the Class 2 District 15 individual title, defeating Park Hill’s Brooke Barnard (6-1,0-6,7-5) and Rachel Brown and Shay Jackson won the district doubles crown, beating St. Teresa’s Academy’s Hannah Swanson and Leigh Campbell (6-2,6-1). Royle was playing St. Joseph Central’s Monica Singh as The Citizen went to press Tuesday and Brown and Jackson were playing Megan Zimbelman and Holly Johnston from St. Joseph Central.
