MAN FOUND DEAD AT INTERURBAN RESIDENCE; SUSPECT IN CUSTODY

The Platte County Sheriff's Department said the death of a Platte County man is being investigated as a possible homicide. Darrell W. Brooks, 56, was found dead Tuesday afternoon at his residence in the 18000 block of Interurban Road, northeast of Platte City and south of Camden Point. Sheriff's Dept. spokesperson Capt. Erik Holland said Wednesday morning that Brooks' stepson, 59-yr-old James F. Gibson, Jr. has been arrested and is on 24-hour hold at the Platte County Jail in Platte City. No charges had been filed as of 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. Holland said Brooks was not shot to death, but declined to give his cause of death pending an autopsy report from the Jackson County medical examiner’s office. Holland said Sheriff’s deputies responded to two disturbance calls at the residence on Tuesday. The first call was received shortly before 2 p.m. and cleared, but police were called back to the scene shortly after 3 p.m. At that time officers found Brooks dead outside the residence. They also found Gibson at the scene.
