The deadline is approaching for talented folks from throughout the community to entertain at the Platte County Fair.Fiddlers, dancers, singers and musicians are all encouraged to enter and perform at the fair. The fair is also seeking young contestants for the missy/master contest. There is no entry fee for the contests, but fair admission tickets for each contestant and their entourage must be purchased (just $10 each — children 12 and younger are free admission.) The contests will be at the Platte County fairgrounds just north of Platte City. The adult amateur talent contest for ages 16 and older will be held at in the Platte Pavilion at 8:30 p.m. July 24. Participants must be at the Pavilion no later than 8 p.m. for check in. The fiddle contest will be held in the Platte Pavilion on July 26. Registration will be at 1 p.m., and the contest will follow atabout 1:30 p.m. The youth talent showcase for ages 15 and younger will be held at 1 p.m. July 26 in the Platte Purchase Building. Participants must check in by 12:30 p.m. There is a limit of 25 participants and all must be pre-registered by 10 p.m. on July 19. Adult talent contestants (amateurs only) can compete in four categories: vocal, instrumental, movement and dance, and interpretive reading. Performances must be limited to eight minutes. Contestants must provide their own accompanists and instruments with the exception of a CD player and an electric piano, which will be available. Ribbons and cash prizes will be awarded. Any royalty fees are the responsibility of the performer and verification of such should be made available. Fiddlers must not have more than two accompanists per fiddler. The fiddler’s program must be limited to eight minutes and include: breakdown, waltz, and tune of choice. Junior and senior division prize money and trophies will be awarded to winning fiddlers. The categories of talent for the youth division are vocal music, instrumental, movement and dance, interpretive reading, and other (appropriate and in good taste). Contestants must provide their own accompanists and instruments. A piano will be available for a contestant’s use. Recognition will be given to each participant. Information needed to register for the youth talent show includes: participant’s name (and parent/guardian for youth) address, daytime and evening telephone numbers, youth’s age, category of talent, and special staging needs. Little Platte County residents ages two through five (as of July 19) are invited to enter the Platte County Fair missy/master contest. The contest will be held at 6:30 p.m. July 23 in the Platte Purchase building on the Platte County fairgrounds. Contestants must arrive at the contest to sign in beginning at 6 p.m. that night. Contestants will be grouped by gender and age for the contest and judged on “cuteness” and personality, not attire. Clothing should be simple summer attire. No swimsuits will be allowed.
