Royle readies for state tennis

Park Hill South’s appearance in the Class 2 Missouri State Tennis Championships bracket lasted only five matches.On Oct. 11, the Panthers lost 5-0 in a rematch with Liberty during sectional play at Minor Park in Kansas City, Mo., ending their season at 10-5. Park Hill South lost in the opening round for the seventh time during their eight consecutive trips to the state playoffs.

The Class 2 District 15 champions, Park Hill South finished 5-1 in Suburban League Red Division play with the lone loss a 7-2 defeat against Liberty on Sept. 16. Liberty went on to lose to Notre Dame de Sion in quarterfinal play.

Park Hill South senior Adele Royle’s season continues this week in the Class 2 state singles bracket at Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield, Mo. She won the District 15 title and a Sectional 8 matchup.

Already a three-time qualifier, Royle finished seventh at state in singles last year to earn a medal in the new expanded placewinner format. She also qualified in singles as a sophomore and part of a doubles team her freshman year.

The brackets for the tournament were slated to be announced Oct. 15.
