Abby Summers’ credentials were beyond overwhelming this season.
A four-year starter, the West Platte senior made the first team on the Missouri High School Fastpitch Coaches Association Class 2 all-state list, moving up from her second team spot last year. She leaves the Bluejays with every school record imaginable for a pitcher.
Summers led West Platte to a 20-7 mark — a program best for wins — this past season and a spot in the District 14 championship game.
Along the way, Summers threw seven no-hitters — one with 21 strikeouts in seven innings against Stewartsville — and recorded an era of 0.45. She racked up 382 strikeouts, briefly setting a state record for Ks in a season until Portageville’s Taylor Tiffany bettered it while leading the Bulldogs to a third-place finish in Class 2.
Summers recently signed to continue her career at Division I Florida International in Miami, Fla., a testament to her performance at a small school in Missouri. She finished her career with 1,062 strikeouts in 550 innings accumulated in 96 games. Her overall ERA was 1.40.
Like Summers, North Platte senior Regan Nash finished her career as a two-time all-state selection — earning Class 2 first-team honors for a second straight season.
The Panthers’ speedy centerfielder set a state record in 2014 with a .602 average and 65 hits, bringing her career total to 185 — another state record. She also finished her career with 164 runs, second-best in state history.
North Platte junior pitcher Victoria Haugsness made second team, finishing 24-3 this season and throwing all but 23 innings for the KCI Conference and District 14 champions, who finished with a 27-3 record.
Platte County (25-7) grabbed three all-state spots after finishing as runner-up in the Class 3 Missouri State Softball Championships.
Mallory Stoner, a junior, made the first team after compiling a 19-6 record helping the Pirates earn a state trophy after dropping down from Class 4 this season. In addition, she added six extra-base hits, including a game-winning home run against Monett in the state semifinals, and 22 RBIs at the plate.
A four-year starter, shortstop Jessie Hoover made the second team at infield after leading Platte County with a batting average of .446 and on-base percentage of .567 to go with team-highs of 44 hits, 35 runs, 14 stolen bases, nine doubles and two home runs. She recently signed to continue her career at Division I Central Arkansas.
Lexi Hansen, another senior, joined Hoover on the second team as a catcher. She committed just four errors on the season and added a .355 average at the plate with nine extra-base hits, tying Hoover for the team lead in home runs with two.
Stoner, Hoover and Hansen are Platte County’s first all-state picks since Selina Kendall, a second-team Class 3 pitcher in 2011.
Park Hill South junior Kylie DeClue made the second team in Class 4 after compiling a .456 average this past season. She posted team-highs of 41 hits, two triples, seven home runs and 10 stolen bases to go with 28 runs and 10 doubles, helping the Panthers (20-10) reach the Class 4 playoffs for the first time in school history.
