Park Hill's Shamet, South's Hyatt compete in senior all-star game

Park Hill senior Landry Shamet stepped on the basketball court one last time in his high school career on Friday, April 10 at Shawnee Mission East High School in Shawnee Mission, Kan. The Wichita State signee was selected to the Missouri team in the Greater Kansas City Basketball Coaches Association All-Star Challenge, which annually pits the best players from both sides of the state line against each other. Park Hill South senior Allen Hyatt also made the Missouri team.

Shamet, the Suburban Conference Red Division player of the year, scored a co-game high 16 points in the Missouri All-Stars’ 112-99 victory. He also won the slam dunk competition held at halftime and was honored as a finalist for the DiRenna Award, given annually to Kansas City’s top player.

Hyatt scored eight points and grabbed seven rebounds. A first-team All-Red Division honoree, he averaged 11 points per game this season for Park Hill South, which finished as Missouri Class 5 state runner-up.

Kevin Puryear, the DiRenna Award winner from Class 5 state champion Blue Springs South, scored nine points.
