Work on a commercial development in Tracy, Mo. continues to become more noticeable with KC Bobcat apparently ready to move there and provide a first major tenant.
Hoy Excavating of Kansas City, Mo. has started major grading work on the 29-acre site located off of Interstate 29 and south of Highway 371. Tentative plans call for a truck stop or convenience store along with a farm supply store, small-unit storage and a new headquarters for Hoy Excavating, according to Benny Hoy — owner of the company.
“This is going to be good for the City of Tracy,” Hoy said. “It’s going to be a neat development.”
The eventual work will include new roadways, including a four-way intersection at the junction of Highways 273 and 371. This should allow for through access to connect with First Street in Tracy, which runs along the southern edge of the Platte County Fairgrounds to a current terminus near I-29.
KCP&L and the Missouri Department of Transportation are working with Hoy to develop the right type of intersection for access to the development. Hoy said paved streets could be finished in May or June with the intersection changes likely to follow.
Hoy bought the land in 2013 and has worked to create the right plan.
A sign on the property declares it as the new home of KC Bobcat, although an official with the company and Platte City city administrator DJ Gehrt said no official notice has been given for the location change. KC Bobcat, a construction equipment dealer, currently operates out of a location at HH Highway off of Interstate 29, just south of the new development.
Other tenants will be determined as the infrastructure is completed. Hoy said the land is drawing plenty of interest.
