The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) plans to help inform motorists of travel times while dealing with ongoing construction along Interstate 29 in Platte County.
Recently, work began on multiple overpasses running between Interstates 435 and 635. These will require lane reductions and the closing of exit/entrance ramps at certain points in time during an estimated six-month work period.
To help keep up with the ever-changing project, KC Scout has activated the dynamic message boards along the I-29 corridor to display travel times to major interchanges. Starting on the morning of May 4, motorists began receiving average travel times, and displays will also alert to incidents along the route.
MoDOT reminds drivers that travel times are practical information used to assess the routes. Motorists are asked to use the information to decide if choosing an alternate route would help avoid congestion. The dynamic message boards work in tandem with KC Scout’s interactive traffic website and mobile app, which display real-time traffic information and camera shots of busy roadways.
KC Scout is Kansas City’s bi-state traffic management system, designed to lessen traffic jams by improving rush-hour speeds, increasing safety by decreasing the number of rush-hour accidents and improving emergency response to traffic situations by clearing incidents quickly and safely. Scout manages traffic on more than 160 miles of continuous freeways in the greater Kansas City metropolitan area.
