Park Hill tennis' season ends in sectional vs. Liberty

Park Hill bowed out of the playoffs in a Class 2 sectional matchup with Suburban Conference Red Division rival Liberty on Saturday, May 23 at Minor Park in Kansas City, Mo. The Blue Jays won 6-1 less than a month after topping the Trojans 6-3 in league play.In the rematch, Park Hill’s No. 3 doubles team of Chandler To and Harim Lee provided the lone win for the Trojans. Noah Higgins-Dunn and Henry Eckhold lost 8-3 in No. 1 doubles to Griffin Turner and TJ Stansbury — their second loss to Liberty’s top duo in a week. The Blue Jays’ pair also won Tuesday, May 19 at Barry Park in Class 2 Sectional 8 individual play.

Turner and Stansbury moved on to the Class 2 Missouri State Tennis Championships’ doubles draw along with Park Hill South’s JD Nassab and Josh Robaska, who also won their sectional matchup.

Park Hill sophomore Jake McFee also qualified for sectionals but was eliminated following a straight sets loss. He won all five of his singles matches during district play but lost both sectional matches. Stansbury beat McFee 6-1, 6-1 to help clinch the win for Liberty, which lost to defending state champion Rockhurst in quarterfinal play later in the day.

The state tennis tournament begins on Thursday, May 28.
