Platte City teen killed in car wreck

Ashley Allen — a 2015 graduate of Platte County High School — died as a result of a two-vehicle accident last week. The crash occurred at about 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 14, according to a report from the Kansas City (Mo.) Police Department. Allen’s Honda Accord was traveling northbound on NW Prairie View Road near Mexico City Avenue south of Platte City when the vehicle left the right side of the roadway. The driver then overcorrected while reentering the roadway, skidded across the center line and was struck by a southbound Honda Odyssey.

No potential cause for the accident was given, nor any injuries to others involved. The Kansas City Police Department’s Accident Investigation Squad continues to look into the crash, and a full report will be available at a later date.

Allen died of her injuries later that day at North Kansas City Hospital.

According to her obituary, which can be found on page B6 of this week’s Citizen, Allen lived in Platte City for the past six years. She enjoyed reading, writing and photography and was attending Maple Woods Community College in Kansas City, Mo.

Services were held for Allen in Platte City over the weekend.
