An early morning accident on Highway 92 east of Platte City led to the death of an Atchison, Kan. man on Wednesday, Jan. 18.
At approximately 7:37 a.m., the Platte County Sheriff’s Office along with the Platte City Police Department responded to a two-vehicle accident east of Bethel Road in central Platte County, according to a news release. Initial investigation showed a 1986 Chevrolet El Camino was traveling east on Highway 92 when the driver lost control of his vehicle, slid sideways and crossed over into the westbound lane.
A 2000 Buick Century traveling west on Highway 92 then struck the El Camino, driven by 51-year-old Donald G. Walf from Atchison, Kan. who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Buick Century, 33-year-old Joshua T. Ross from Platte City was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A preliminary investigation indicated that weather conditions may have been a contributing factor with ice reported on roadways that morning.
The accident investigation is still ongoing and will be conducted by the Platte County Sheriff’s Office Crash Team.
