Blue Jays break 4x100 record at home meet

Another meet, another broken record for the West Platte boys’ track and field team.

The West Platte boys’ 4x100-meter relay team of Augie Hill, Dominic Williams, McClain Zendejas and Chad Fowles broke the former school record when they completed the race in 44.74 seconds at the Danneman Relays at West Platte High School on April 22.

The Blue Jays have been leaving their mark this season and most recently, the 4x100-meter relay team broke the school record at the Danneman Relays at West Platte High School on April 22. Augie Hill, Dominic Williams, McClain Zendejas and Chad Fowles completed the race in 44.74 seconds, which was 0.15 seconds faster than the previous record.

Along with the record-breaking relay team, the Blue Jays 4x400 and 4x800-meter relays both finished in first place. West Platte’s 4x200-meter relay clinched second place with a time of 1:36.48.

Charlie Kinslow continues to collect gold medals like candy as the West Platte junior won the 800 and 1,600-meter runs. Kinslow hasn’t lost either race all year long, most recently finishing with times of 2:04.55 and 4:38.57, respectively.

Cameron Williams won the 300-meter hurdles when he crossed the finish line in 44.79 seconds, while also claiming seventh place in the 110-meter hurdles. Fowles acquired a silver medal in the 100-meter dash when he ended the race in 11.2 seconds, followed by Zendejas in fifth place in 11.49 seconds; Zendejas also claimed fifth place in the 200-meter dash when he finished in 23.26 seconds.

In the field events, Tristan Newkirk earned the gold medal in the pole vault when he cleared the 9-10 foot bar. McKanan Reade cleared 7-10.50 feet to take home the bronze medal in the event and Wyatt Wallingford finished in sixth place with a 7-04.50 foot vault.

In the high jump, Dalton Hill and Augie Hill both cleared the 5-09 foot bar to finish in fifth and sixth places, respectively. Elijah Harris brought home the silver medal in the shot put with a 39-02 foot hurl.

The West Platte girls won the three longest relays and claimed fourth place in the 4x100-meter relay in 55.38 seconds. Hailey Peters finished in second place in the 300-meter hurdles in 50.45 seconds and fifth place in the 100-meter hurdles in 18.17 seconds.

Julia Pattison had a pair of top-3 finishes when the sophomore earned a silver medal in the 3,200-meter run and a bronze medal in the 1,600-meter run. Katie Groom finished in fourth place in the 100-meter dash when the senior crossed the finish line in 12.99 seconds.

In the field events, Laura Hill won the pole vault with an 8-04.50 foot leap and Ahlanna Rutherford claimed first place in the high jump with a 4-11 foot hop. Hailey Shepardson finished in third place in the shot put with a 30-08 foot heave.
