Blue Jays soar past Trojans, twice

Park Hill’s Zane Baker catches a pop fly in the Trojans 3-0 win over Benton on April 11 before they lost to Liberty two times in a 5-day span.

The Liberty baseball team (10-9) was too much for Park Hill (8-9) as the Blue Jays bested the Trojans twice in a 5-day span.

Liberty won 10-0 – when Park Hill only had one hit – on April 12 and 4-1 on April 17. The Blue Jays erupted for 19 hits on the two games.

Park Hill took on Rockhurst (7-10) between the two losses to Liberty and came out on top 4-3 on April 15. The Hawklets went up 2-0 in the first inning, followed by a Trojan run off a Braydan Resch RBI two innings later.

Rockhurst responded with a run in the ensuing inning, but its 3-1 lead disappeared in the bottom of the fifth inning. Tyson Kiser hit a line drive to right field, resulting in a double to send Kaeden Pak home.

Resch was walked and put into scoring position as Garrison Mertz stepped up to the plate and delivered on a 2-RBI double. The Trojans took a 4-3 margin and went on to win by that score.

Before the first of two games against Liberty, Park Hill beat Benton (7-6) on April 11. The Trojans entered the day having lost five of the last six but came out with a 3-0 win over the Cardinals.

Benton only had two hits on the day and Park Hill led almost the entire game, scoring in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI double by Resch. After two scoreless innings, Caelin Bradford had a 2-RBI double to send Maxx Houchins and Logan Hampton home and put Park Hill up 3-0.

Mertz struck out five batters in five innings and Resch had two strikeouts in two innings as the Park Hill defense kept Benton off the board. This was the Trojans’ first shutout win against a Missouri opponent since 2021.

The Trojans have officially passed the midway point of the spring and are looking to end the regular season strong, starting with a 3-game road trip. Park Hill will head to Lee’s Summit (5-11) on April 19.
