Blue Springs businessman charged for fraud

A Blue Springs business is facing at least 11 charges of deceptive business practices, including one felony count in Platte County.

Robert Williams

Robert B. Williams, 47, had charges filed locally on March 15 – a week after similar charges were filed in Cass and Johnson counties. As of early April, he has 11 felony charges from the attorney general’s office in Jackson, Clay, Platte, Johnson and Cass counties.

Court documents said that he defraud a Platte County resident on or around June 16, 2015. Williams of Xtreme Concrete and Outdoor Living, LLC, entered into a contract for landscaping work, which was set to begin two weeks from that date. He got a check for $2,000 for material and equipment needed to complete the work.

During July and August of 2015, Williams made claims he was unable to begin the promised work, according to court documents. Around Sept. 2015, a refund was requested but Williams stated the materials had been purchased and a full refund couldn’t be given.

As of the court filings on March 6, a refund had never been given to the Platte County resident.

On March 29, a warrant was served on Williams. He originally had a $10,000 cash only bond, it was reduced to 10 percent cash or surety on March 28.
