Both of Platte County’s cross country teams will be headed to Gans Creek in Columbia this Saturday, Nov. 9, with a lot of confidence after dominating the Class 4 District 4 Championships at Jesse James Park in Kearney on Saturday, Nov. 2.
The girls’ team won the competition in dominating fashion by a 17-point gap between them and runner-up Kearney. All seven lady runners for Platte County finished in the Top 30. The guys’ team finished runner-up and only four points out of first place and five points ahead of third place Smithville. Five of the seven runners for the guys’ team finished in the Top 30.
The ladies were led by freshman Tyler Stambersky, who finished fourth with a time of 20:36.43, followed by senior Madelynn Nichols, who finished eighth with a time of 20:59.43. Senior Madison Palmer finished 13th with a time of 21:27.77, followed by junior Maddie Stewart, who finished 23rd with a time of 22:06.27; freshman Arsema Ayiche finished 26th with a time of 22:12.04; junior Eleanor McCoy finished 27th with a time of 22:16.48; and senior Brooklynne Jenni finished 29th with a time of 22:22.26.
The guys were led by senior Tanner Jenks, who finished third with a time of 16:20.38, followed by junior Blake Herron, who finished sixth with a time of 16:39.75. Junior Donavin Ness finished 11th with a time of 17:12.62, followed by senior Ethan Smith, who finished 19th with a time of 17:33.2; freshman Landon McKinzie finished 23rd with a time of 17:38.08; junior Elijah Jackson finished 33rd with a time of 17:56.49; and sophomore Jacobi Keith finished 40th with a time of 18:31.5.
