A Kansas City man is facing two charges after allegedly stealing a car from Argosy Casino in Riverside and then traversing his way around Platte County to avoid getting caught.
The incident on Tuesday, Feb. 25 ended when Aaron Bremer, 25, wrecked the stolen vehicle off of N. Platte Purchase Road, trying to enter the westbound lane of Highway 152.
Bremer, a Kansas City resident, appeared in court on Feb. 27 and a not guilty plea was entered on his behalf on the allegations of tampering with a motor vehicle and resisting arrest/fleeing detention, both felonies.
He has filed for a public defender and is set to return to court on Tuesday, March 17.
Bremer’s request for a bond modification was denied and he is currently being held in lieu of $25,000 cash only bond at the Platte County Detention Center in Platte City.
The incident started when a guest staying at the hotel at the casino asked for a valet to bring her car to the front. As she was placing her bags in a trunk, a subject — believed to be Bremer — walked by her and then got in the car and sped away.
A Riverside officer followed the car, which didn’t have lights on, until reaching the city limits and it reached Kansas City. The black Honda Civic returned to the city but the initial officer lost sight of the vehicle due to the high rate of speed.
A pursuit was picked up by the Platte County Sheriff’s Office on Interstate 29.
Speeds were in excess of 120 miles per hour on I-29 and Bremer was weaving in and out of traffic and driving on the shoulder, according to court documents.
He exited I-29 at NW 72nd Street, went to Highway 9, into a residential area off Winter Road, back to Highway 9, then back on NW 72nd Street and back on I-29, going southbound. He exited on NW 64th Street and then back on I-29, going the wrong way in the northbound lane.
The chase returned to 72nd Street, then onto Prairie View Road, going 90 miles per hour. The pursuit crossed NW Barry Road and into the Zona Rosa Town Center, where the car was driving 50 miles per hour in the shopping center.
After leaving Zona, the pursuit returned to Barry going 100 miles per hour, before reaching 120 miles per hour again on Highway 152 before crashing into a ditch off N. Platte Purchase Road.
Bremer has been arrested for tampering with a motor vehicle two other times: 2017 and Jan. 17 this year in Jackson County.
