The Platte City Police Department invites the community to participate in its 13th Annual Cops and Kids Event on Tuesday, Aug. 8.
The event will run from 5-8 p.m. at Platte County Middle School. While traditionally a downtown event, the location was moved this year to accommodate a very special and exciting feature - the arrival of a police helicopter from the city’s partners in the Kansas City Missouri Police Department.
Cops and Kids is an annual community-building event which is designed to promote police-community partnerships, neighborhood camaraderie and interaction with the city’s elected officials. Millions of neighbors take part in annual events like this one across thousands of communities to make neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. Platte City’s Cops and Kids event enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while highlighting a true sense of community. It provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.
The 2023 event will include a variety of public safety demonstrations including suspicious package disposal, K-9 officer, crashed vehicle extrication, drone and SWAT equipment displays and many more.
Chief Joe Wellington expresses his “gratitude for the exceptional men and women that serve in law enforcement and commit their time to sharing their work with the Platte City community. The local, county, state and federal agencies joining us to host this event are just a small part of the resources available to serve the Platte City community, including many that I am privileged to work with every day.”
Traditional free hot dogs, chips, water, balloon artist and a visit by KC Wolf will be included.
“The events hosted by the city provide community building opportunities for our residents, businesses and agency partners,” said Mayor Tony Paolillo. “The city appreciates the support of our residents and business partners. Working together to build upon the foundation that established many community traditions is time well-spent.”
