Cross country roundup: North Platte picks up 1st win since ’16

Park Hill and Park Hill South both got a glimpse of the new MSHSAA cross country course on Saturday, Sept. 28 in Columbia.

The two teams took part in the Gans Creek Classic, which will host the state championship on Nov. 9.

The Panthers had a pair of medalists in Quentin Worley and Ethan Mick, who placed 10th and 16th, respectively.

The two were separated by five seconds in a race (16:25 and 16:31) with 248 runners in the Gold Division.

Overall, the Panthers were 17th in the team standings. Division rival Liberty won the team title with 206, followed by Festus, Kirkwood, St. Joseph Central and Marquette in the top five.

“I’m very happy with how Worley and Mick raced this weekend,” Park Hill South coach AJ Roth said. “They made sure to stay with the lead pack to give them a chance to medal. Mick really impressed me on Saturday with his mental toughness. I know he was hurting but he was able to push through and get a personal record.”
