Only 23.5 percent of voters statewide turned to vote in the Missouri primaries, which were held on Tuesday, March 10.
Platte County was higher than the state average with 27.5 percent turn out — 17,036 ballots out of 61,958 registered voters.
President Donald Trump easily carried the Republican party, garnering 3,656 (95 percent) of the 3,838 votes casts. The second-highest vote total was ‘uncommitted’ with 75 and then Bill Weld with 50 votes.
The Democrats had a larger turnout with 13,115 voters. A total of 17 different candidates got at least one vote.
Former Vice President Joe Biden had 7,933 votes, easily outdistancing second-place Bernie Sanders (4,602).
Elizabeth Warren came in a distant third with 145 votes.
Other top voter getters were: Jacob Hornberger (41 votes/Libertarian party); Dario Hunter (3/Green party) and Don Blankenship (2/Constitution party).
The turnout was much lower this year with a sitting president vying for re-election than it was in 2016.
That year, Platte County had 24,732 votes (43.5 percent) in the primary.
Sanders won Platte County that year, edging Hillary Clinton to pace the Democrats.
Ted Cruz led the Republican candidates in 2016 with 5,798 votes, ahead of Trump’s 5,492.
Trump and Biden were declared the state winner in their respective parties by the Associated Press.
