Schools in the area will begin summer school in July. The schools are using guidance from the local health department and the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
The Platte County School District and the North Platte School District will offer summer school from July 6 to July 31. The Park Hill School District will offer summer school for elementary and middle school students from July 1 to July 31 with no school July 3, as long as public health and government officials say it is safe to do so — and if the state chooses to fund summer school.
The Platte County School District’s in-person, K-8 grade summer school will be limited to less than 20 students. The students will be spaced with six feet between students.
Other stipulations the school district has given include that classes stay together, remaining in stable groups. No assemblies or co-mingling of classes will be allowed.
Buildings and high-touch surfaces will be regularly cleaned and sanitized and students and staff members are urged to wash their hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds as frequently as possible.
The school district also advises that students and staff should be cautious when coughing or sneezing and use their elbows or sleeves, not their hands, to shield others from sneezes or coughs.
Face coverings consistent with guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention must be used appropriately when physical distancing cannot be maintained.
The district has a limited supply of extra face coverings so students and staff are advised to provide their own coverings.
“We look forward to seeing children in our schools again,” Platte County School District superintendent Mike Reik said. “We have missed our students, and we look forward to a safe return to teaching and learning.”
Families who have registered their K-8 students for summer school need not re-enroll them. The district sent a form recently so parents can relay whether their children will be attending in July.
For families who haven’t yet enrolled the district has opened enrollment via e-form on Parent Portal on the district’s website. Forms must be completed by June 14.
For more information on summer school contact Dr. Mike Brown at brownm@platteco.k12.mo.us, or your summer school site administrator.
For students attending summer school, Y Club programs, before and after summer school care, will also be available for students in Kindergarten to fifth grade while summer school is in session. It will be held at Siegrist Elementary and Pathfinder Elementary schools. Students must register on the district’s website for Y Club.
Platte County School District athletics and activities will resume contact on June 15. Students will be allowed on campus and in designated practice facilities in small, stable groups of 50 or less to participate with Platte County School District teams.
Adherence to guidelines and recommendations from the Platte County Health Department, the Missouri State High School Activities Association and the Suburban Conference is being followed by the school district and physical distancing and disease control and prevention measures will be in place.
Students/guardians will be asked to acknowledge and sign a summer participation waiver form which will be sent to families directly from their coaches/sponsors along with schedules and guidelines for participation.
The district is also going to allow outside organizations to reserve available, outdoor facility space beginning June 15. Indoor facility space will be closed until further notice.

The Park Hill School District will offer transportation for students as long as the district can meet health and safety guidelines.
High School virtual courses, including credit recovery will be offered June 19 to July 8 with no school July 3.
