Just hours after the Kansas City Chiefs back-to-back Super Bowl win, the two largest school districts in Platte County announced Wednesday, Feb. 14 would be a celebratory “red snow day,” as the Kansas City Chiefs participate in a parade and rally in downtown Kansas City.
Park Hill and Platte County R-3 school districts both cancelled classes Wednesday. The North Platte and West Platte school districts planned to have classes as usual on Wednesday.
In Park Hill, the days leading up to the Super Bowl included some social media ribbing of Park Hill High School graduate and San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ronnie Bell about their condolences for the upcoming Chiefs win and the assurance the school was still proud of their pro alum. The district announced Monday, Feb. 12 that there would be no school Wednesday and district officials say they will determine later if and when that day will be made up - after inclement weather season ends.
At Platte County R-3, district officials say the district has enough classroom hours under its belt that there will be no need to make up the day.
The celebration in Kansas City was set to begin with a 90-minute parade down Grand Avenue at 11 a.m., beginning at Sixth Street and ending at Union Station. The parade was scheduled to be followed by a rally at 12:45 p.m. at Union Station. Players from the Kansas City Chiefs as well as coaching staff and Clark Hunt were expected to speak.
