Work is expected to begin this fall on a redevelopment project at Zona Rosa Town Center, owned by Texas-based Trademark Property Company.
The open-format shopping district has suffered loss of tenants over the last decade and fell into bankruptcy in 2018 before it was acquired by Trademark. It was also at the center of a lawsuit between Platte County and UMB Bank over payments for a parking garage built during construction of phase two of the town center. The bank recently lost its appeal to force Platte County to cover shortfalls in bond payments from lagging sales tax receipts.
Trademark plans to demolish one of the buildings south of Dillard’s to make room for a new green space, with an overall redevelopment project planned to include a new stage, outdoor seating, a splash park, public art and more.
Other existing buildings are also scheduled for cosmetic repairs and the area’s upscale apartments are undergoing renovation. The first phase is expected to be complete next spring.
“Our goal is to make Zona Rosa the central hub of the Northland by creating an amenity rich environment to enhance the overall experience for our customers, tenants and community that goes beyond what a traditional shopping center offers,” said Zona Rosa general manager Scott Zigler, in a news release.
