Elful Leads Park Hill South at state track

Out of the five individual events that the Park Hill South track and field team competed in at the Class 5 State Meet, Judy Elful was the only Panther to walk away with a medal from Jefferson City High School on May 28.

Park Hill South junior Judy Elful was the only individual Panther to medal in the Class 5 State Meet when she claimed eighth place in the 100-meter hurdles.

The junior hurdler made it to state in both the 100 and 300-meter hurdles, taking eighth place in the 100-meter hurdles in 14.99 seconds. The race was tight – with third through eighth places all being within one second of each other – and Elful’s junior season came to an end with a medal.

Elful didn’t quite make it out of prelims in the 300-meter hurdles when a time of 49.21 seconds gave her 14th place. Only the top-8 in each event moves on from the prelim races to the final races.

Jack Franklin’s Park Hill South career came to an end on the opening day of prelims when he was 0.76 seconds too slow to move on to the finals of the 400-meter dash. The senior finished the race in 50.98 seconds to end in 11th place.

Ella Conklin ended the 800-meter run in 15th place with a time of 2:29.37 and Terrius Walker leaped 12.31 meters in the triple jump to take 15th place. The Panthers’ 4x400-meter relay team – consisting of Nathan Hilzinger, Shane Smith, Troy Mosby and Franklin – started the prelim race in lane two and didn’t make much progress as Park Hill South ended in 12th place with a time of 3:29.27.
