A Peculiar man — who works for a school district — is being held without bond in Platte County, charged with attempted enticement of an undercover detective posing as a child online.
Joshua Everitt, 40, appeared in Platte County Circuit Court last week, claiming he appeared under duress.
A detective with the Cyber Crimes Task Force responded to an ad on a social media site entitled “anyone bored?” The entry stated that the poster, later identified as Everitt, was “up for chatting, partying, anything you might suggest,” according to court documents. Everitt stated he was open to age, race, size and status and needed discretion.
Posing as a 13-year old girl named “Casey,” the detective contacted Everitt on Sept. 17 and a conversation ensued, with Casey mentioning her age many times. The conversation continued via email and became inappropriate, with Everitt commenting he hoped Casey was not on a school computer, stating “I hope you know how much of a risk this is to be talking to you. And hope this isn’t a setup or anything. That doesn’t mean there’s not the temptation. It’s sounding like you’ve had a little experience with partying and sex and are hoping for more of it. Is that about right?”
Talk turned to drugs and sexual activity with Everitt admitting he was separated and needed to go pick up his children for dinner. Casey offered for Everitt to come to her home in St. Joseph, but Everitt declined because of Casey’s age. “Considering your age, a room would be best for any kind of play.” Talks continued and the exchange of photos was discussed.
By Sept. 20, detectives decided Everitt posed a danger to society, especially as an employee of a school district in constant contact with children. Reportedly, Everitt was terminated by the Raymore-Peculiar School District shortly after the charges were filed. Additionally, Everitt has two young daughters.
