Chase Fitch was all over the place defensively for the Park Hill South football team as the senior scored three defensive touchdowns to help lead the Panthers over Grandview in a dominating 40-0 victory on Sept. 3.
Following a scoreless first quarter, Park Hill South relied on defense and special teams to get rolling. Chase Fitch scored twice on two separate fumble recoveries and Briggs Bartosh had a punt return for an 80-yard score in the second quarter.
Fitch’s first scoop and score was from 51-yards out and the next one was in the end zone as the Bulldogs botched a pitch deep in the Panther’s territory. Park Hill South only converted on the PAT once out of its three attempts in the first half when the Panthers led Grandview 19-0 at the break.
Darrien Jones got Park Hill South’s offense going in the second half as he scored a pair of rushing touchdowns from 5-yards and 2-yards out. Jones ended with 84 total rushing yards on 13 attempts, while Bartosh was the leader for the Panthers on the ground with 86 rushing yards on eight attempts.
Fitch ended his outstanding defensive performance with an interception return for a touchdown to put a cherry on the cake on the Panthers 40-point, shutout victory. The Panther picked off a pass behind the line of scrimmage and took it 20-yards for the final score of the game late in the third quarter.
Roger Guillory led Park Hill South with 11 tackles while James Williams ended with nine tackles including five tackles for loss. The Panthers have won the first two games of the season for the first time since 2016 and they will be back at it when they head to Grain Valley this Friday to take on the 1-1 Eagles
