Former commissioner Jim Plunkett remembered

Commissioners last week paid tribute to a former commissioner who died earlier this month. 

Jim Plunkett, 66, passed away Feb. 16. The former owner of JPI Glass, Plunkett served as second district commissioner from 2004-2012 and also made an unsuccessful run at the presiding commissioner’s seat in 2014.

First District Commissioner Dagmar Wood thanked Plunkett for his service at the Tuesday, Feb. 20 meeting of the Platte County Commission. 

“I want to recognize the service of former second district commissioner Jim Plunkett and pray for his family,” Wood said. “He served well for eight years and we’re thankful for his service.”

At the beginning of the meeting, Bethel House of Prayer pastor Michael Lazio acknowledged Plunkett’s passing as well with a special prayer for him and his family. 

Plunkett was born in Columbia, Mo. on March 7, 1957 and grew up in Olathe, Kan. In 1984 he became owner and operator of JPI Glass and in October 1986 he married his wife, Sherri. They have three children. After his retirement in 2019, the family purchased a farm near Trimble. Plunkett was involved in an accident that left him paralyzed. 

Plunkett was laid to rest on Thursday, Feb. 22 at Terrace Park Funeral Home. Contributions in his name may be made to Craig Hospital, convio.net.
