Girls wrestling roundup: Mid-Buchanan co-op wins KCI championship

The rescheduled Kearney Invitational was held on Saturday, Feb. 1 in Kearney, with Park Hill, Park Hill South and West Platte all competed.

The Bluejays had two champions on the day with Selina Friedrid (110) and Mikenna Peters (120) both going 2-0. Peters won both of her matches by pins in less than 45 seconds.

Finley Bickford won a championship for Park Hill South, winning three matches, both by pins in the first period. 

Park Hill had a pair of wrestlers and left with a champion as Eve Herlyn (125) won two matches by pins in the first period.

OTHER MATCHES

Mid-Buchanan 40, Stanberry 6

The Dragons got four wins from North Platte students in a dual on Tuesday, Feb. 4 in Faucett.

Loren Patee (103), Ariana Hartigan (110) and Brooklyn Dunn (166) all won by forfeits, while Haley Sampson (115) got an 11-2 major decision against Marissa Webster.

Benton Girls Scramble

Platte County and Mid-Buchanan each had two champions and Park Hill South had one at the Benton Scramble held on Friday, Jan. 31 in St. Joseph.

Both of Mid-Buchanan’s firsts came from North Platte students. Loren Patee (103) went 2-0, while Haley Sampson (115) posted a 3-0 mark to earn her title.

Two other North Platte wrestlers placed for the Mid-Buchanan co-op as Ariana Hartigan (110) and Brooklyn Dunn (166) each finished third.

Sarina Bertram and Elizabeth Humburg each won titles for Platte County, with Bertram (166) going 3-0 and Humburg (125) 2-0. KayLyn Munn (187) was a runner-up, with Haley Burge (103) and Cheynne Weir (103) both third in their respective brackets.

Park Hill South took only two wrestlers and Finley Bickford (142) won a championship by going 2-0, winning both by pins. Samantha Medina (152) took third for the Panthers. 

Mid-Buchanan 42, Gallatin 6

The Dragons won seven of the eight matches in this dual on Thursday, Jan. 30 in Gallatin.

Loren Patee (103) had one of the two in actual contested matches, as the North Platte  student pinned Christin Burns in 3:29. 

North Platte’s Arianna Hartigan (110), Haley Sampson (115) and Brooklyn Dunn (166) also got wins for the Dragons.

KCI Night No. 3

Mid-Buchanan 36, Lawson 30

Mid-Buchanan 30, Plattsburg 21 

Mid-Buchanan won the KCI Conference championship with three victories on Tuesday, Jan. 28 in KCI Conference action in Lathrop, getting a tiebreaker criteria win against the host Mules.

North Platte’s Brooklyn Dunn and Loren Patee won by forfeits, while Haley Sampson (115) pinned Amaya Kennedy to help Mid-Buchanan beat Lawson.

Patee, Ariana Hartigan and Sampson all got forfeit wins for Mid-Buchanan against Lathrop.

Patee and Dunn won by forfeits against Plattsburg, while Sampson pinned Taran Sherwood for another win from North Platte wrestlers.

Smithville 21, Platte County 6

The lone win for the Pirates against the Warriors was a pin by Elizabeth Humburg, who pinned Corene Keele (125) in 4 minutes, 17 seconds.

Smithville won the other four matches in the Suburban Conference Blue Division match on Tuesday, Jan. 28.

West Platte 24, Penney 6

All of the points for the Bluejays and Hornets came from forfeits in this KCI Conference dual on Tuesday, Jan. 28. 

Selina Friedrid (110), Mikenna Peters (120), Cosette Clark (!25) and Kristen Crockett (135) got victories for the Bluejays.

Ray-Pec 33, Park Hill 9

The Trojans won two matches against the Panthers in a Suburban Conference Gold Division match on Tuesday, Jan. 28.

Madison Germany (166) won 10-4 against Eden Highland, while Cierra Miller (142) pinned Brynn Elkins for the other Trojan victory. Each team won two matches, but Ray-Pec had four wins by forfeits.

Three North Platte wrestlers helped Mid-Buchanan pick up a KCI Conference win at KCI Night No. 2 on Monday, Jan. 27 in Plattsburg.

Loren Patee (103), Haley Sampson (115), Brooklyn Dunn (166) each got forfeit wins for Mid-Buchanan vs. West Platte. 

West Platte got two wins in the duals. Selina Friedrid (110) pinned Arianna Hartigan while Cosette Clark (125) earned a forfeit victory.

West Platte got only one win against Plattsburg, with Friedrid pinning Grace Liles in 5:25.

In the Mid-Buchanan vs. Penney dual, Patee, Sampson, Dunn and Hartigan all won by forfeits.
