It took five law enforcement officers to subdue a naked man at the Platte City Super 8 Motel in Platte City earlier this month, according to court documents.
Danial C. Barr, 48, of Leavenworth, Kan., is now facing a felony possession of a controlled substance and a felony third-degree assault-special victim after injuring an officer in the tussle on March 6.
Barr is currently being held in the Platte County Detention Center in lieu of a $25,000 cash only bond.
He pleaded not guilty to the allegations on March 9 and is set to appear in court again on March 24 in front of judge Abe ‘Quint’ Shafer.
Officers arrived to the hotel at 2500 NW Prairie View Road at 12:40 a.m. after a call of a naked and possibly intoxicated man yelling as he ran up and down the hallway.
Barr came out of room 203 when officers arrived and appeared to be ‘agitate(d) and angry’ when seeing the Platte City officer there. When asked by the officer what his name was, Barr said ‘God,’ according to court documents.
He returned to his room before reappearing but didn’t follow commands given. He started walking to an officer, who deployed a taser to stop Barr from advancing. Three officers attempted to take Barr into custody but he kept fighting. He wouldn’t allow officers to take him into custody despite being pinned in the corner. Two Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers arrived, Barr kept fighting and that is when he injured an officer’s arm.
The unnamed officer and Barr were both transported to the hospital for evaluation. Court document said the officer needed an MRI to locate a possible broken bone in their arm.
Platte City Police Chief Joe Wellington noted on Tuesday, March 17, the officer was OK and returned to full duty.
Officers found 9 grams of methamphetamine in the room and a test at the hospital showed he had meth in his system.
The charge is the first for Barr in Platte County, but court documents show he has been arrested for manufacturing a controlled substance, aggravated assault, driving under the influence, domestic assault and battery in the past.
