Gutshall leads way as Pirates take 16th place at state swim

ST. PETERS – Platte County took the trek to St. Peters Rec Plex and racked up a 16th place finish in the Class 1 State Boys’ Swimming Championship on Nov. 9 and 10.

Deacon Gutshall ended his junior season with a pair of state medals. He set several school records this season, including at state.

Gutshall had a PR time of 1:44.5 in the preliminary 200-yard freestyle, getting a chance to compete for a state medal. In the finals the senior set the school record – finishing the race in 1:44.39 – to earn fifth place.

Gutshall went on to shine in the 500-yard freestyle, having an even higher finish. He claimed third place with a time of 4:43.02.

Palmer Keith brought home a fifth-place medal in the 200-yard IM with a school record time of 1:55.82. The junior took 10th place in the consolation finals of the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:00.39.

Keith and Gutshall teamed up with sophomore Jack Hokanson and junior Coburn Parkin in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The Pirates failed to get out of prelims, placing 19th in 3:29.3
