The Independence Day holiday will bring a weekend of festivities to Platte County.
In Weston, a family parade will kick off at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 2 at Main and Thomas streets. The line-up for the parade will be at Christian Assembly on Washington Street with decoration bags available. Everyone is invited to participate.
Kids’ activities will begin at 4:30 p.m., including a bounce house, tattoos, face painting, corn hole, lemonade stand and more. Ice cream will be available for purchase at Main Street Galleria, gelato for sale at Root Sellers and a food truck will be on hand.
A street dance will follow with fireworks at dusk.
Platte City will celebrate between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Main Street. Harper Haus Music Company, Good Sam Club Band, Beatniks Dance and Pirates Cheerleading Club will perform.
Activities include a bounce house, obstacle course, dunk tank, face painting, balloon artist and caricature artist. Boy Scout Troop 351 will serve hot dogs and several food trucks will be on hand.
The fireworks show will be at 10 p.m. at Platte County High School.
In Parkville, the parade will begin at 10 a.m. and begins at Northwest 63rd Street and Highway 9, ending on Main Street. A trivia contest and giveaways will also begin at 10 a.m. at First and Main streets.
The American Legion will host a pancake breakfast from 8-11 a.m.
A bounce house and water activities will begin at 11 a.m. at the ballfield. Food vendors serving shaved ice, kettle corn, slushies and more will open at 6 p.m.
The Parkville Symphonic Band will perform at 7:30 p.m. Monday, July 4 at the Graham Tyler Memorial Chapel at Park University. Admission is free.
At 8:30 p.m., the Falcon Skydiving exhibition will begin in the Missouri Riverfront parks. The fireworks will begin at around 9:30 p.m.
