A Kansas City woman is dead following a one-vehicle accident that happened on Thursday, March 21 in Platte County.
The accident at Interstate 29 northbound at Interstate 635 happened around 6:20 p.m., which caused the road closures for hours.
Kara E. Tatum, 33, was killed in the accident, pronounced dead by Dr. Rick Radakovich at North Kansas City Hospital at 7:18 p.m., according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The report shows that Timothy V. Thomas, 34, of Liberty, was driving northbound on I-29 in a 2002 Jeep when he attempted to change lanes and then over corrected.
The vehicle traveled off the roadway and struck a guardrail and rolled several times ejecting two passengers — Tatum and Chad E. Huber, 46, of Sturgeon, Mo.
None of the three occupants in the vehicle had on their seat belts.
Huber and Thomas both suffered moderate injuries and both were transported to North Kansas Hospital.
Tatum’s body was taken to Frontier Forensics. She was the 20th fatality in 2019 out of 17 fatal crashes in Troop A.
MSHP Arrests
The following individuals were arrested in Platte County in recent weeks.
Brandi L. Seip, 34, of Independence, Mo., was arrested on March 18 on a felony warrant out of Johnson (Kan.) County and Independence.
Penelope J. Raysik, 54, of Atchison, Kan., was arrested on two warrants from Independence, Mo., on March 18.
Matthew D. Waymn, 32, of Olathe, Kan., was arrested on a felony possession of a controlled substance and felony warrant out of Johnson (Kan.) County on March 21.
Dillon J. Bonnett, 28, of St. Joseph, Mo., was arrested for driving while intoxicated and speeding on March 22.
David W. Bailey, 31, of Kansas City, Kan., was arrested for driving while intoxicated, lane violation, no insurance and failure to use turn signal on March 23.
