KCI boys basketball roundup: Bluejays beat Cass-Midway, Orrick

West Platte caught fire offensively in the middle two quarters and blasted Cass-Midway, 75-49, in a home game on Friday, Dec. 6 in Weston.

The Bluejays led 18-12 after the first quarter, but busted out for 50 points the next two quarters. In the 27-point second quarter, Brayden Cogan had eight points and Mason Montez added six.

Phillip Pattison had nine of the team’s 23 points in the third quarter, which built a 68-33 lead going into the fourth.

Montez led the Bluejays with 15 points, while Pattison and Cogan had 12 each.

Miles DeMayo scored 10 to give West Platte four out of five starters scoring in double figures.

West Platte boys 68, Orrick 43

The Bluejays scored 40 points in the second half and picked up their first win of the year on Tuesday, Dec. 3 in Weston.

West Platte held a slim lead, 28-27 at the break but outscored the Bearcats by nine in the third quarter. Then, a 22-point outburst in the fourth sealed the win for West Platte (1-1).

Phillip Pattison accounted for 12 of his team-high 14 points in the second half for West Platte. He was one of five players to score in double figures.

Brayden Cogan had 13, followed by 11 from Trent Taylor and 10 each from Mason Montez and Miles DeMayo.

Kauffman boys 63, North Platte 40

The Panthers fell behind by double figures in the second quarter and never recovered in a season-opening loss on Tuesday, Nov. 26. North Platte got five points in the first quarter from Ty French and trailed 11-7 but were down by at least 10 points after the next two quarters. Kauffman put a punctuation mark on the win by scoring 20 in the fourth quarter. French led North Platte in scoring with eight, while three other players scored six points.

Bishop LeBlond boys 65, West Platte 64

Isaac Ferguson hit a free throw with no time left on the clock to lift the Golden Eagles to a win on Monday, Nov. 25 in St. Joseph.

Ferguson was fouled as time expired in the fourth quarter and went to the line to shoot two free throws. He only needed one to secure the win over the Bluejays.

West Platte missed two free throws earlier that could’ve given them the lead back after being tied at 64.

LeBlond rebounded the ball and Ferguson got a pass and was fouled as he attempted a potential game-winning shot.

LeBlond held the lead at the end of all four quarters and all four were by a possession.

Brayden Cogan scored 17, while Phillip Pattison had 16 for West Platte. Chris Guldan had 19 for LeBlond.
