KCI Conference girls basketball roundup: West Platte earns 1st win of season

West Platte tasted victory for the first time this season on Monday, Feb. 4, beating Troy 41-37 on the road in Troy, Kan.

The Bluejays did so by topping the Trojans 41-37 in a nonconference win. The victory came after West Platte dropped its first 15 games of the season.

West Platte led Troy 8-4 after the first quarter, 16-9 at halftime and 25-23 after the third quarter. 

West Platte leading scorer Lea Moose helped the Bluejays edge Troy down the stretch with a pair of 3s and a 2-for-2 effort from the free throw line on her way to a game-high 21 points.

West Platte (1-15) was scheduled to play at North Platte on Tuesday, Feb. 5, but the result was not available by press time.

North Platte 49, East Buchanan 44

North Platte earned a KCI victory over East Buchanan on Friday, Feb. 1 at East Buchanan High School.

With the win, the Panthers (11-10) have won four of their last five contests ahead of the Tuesday’s home contest against West Platte. The result was not available before press time.

North Platte trailed 36-32 headed into the final quarter, but the Panthers out-scored the home side 17-8 in the fourth. 

Janell Manville scored nine of her team-high 15 points down the stretch. Also during the fourth quarter, McKenzie Brockhoff added a 3-for-4 free throw effort, Jordyn Smith was 2-for-2 on freebies and Grace Rice hit a 3. Rice finished with 11 points and Brockhoff had 10.

Lilly Schilling led East Buchanan (5-13) with a game-high 23 points.

North Platte is at Mid-Buchanan on Friday, Feb. 8.

DeKalb 41, West Platte 25

DeKalb held West Platte scoreless in the first quarter and to just five points in the first half in a nonconference contest on Thursday, Jan. 31 in Weston.

The Tigers, who improved to 8-5 with the win, led 17-5 at halftime and 34-17 after the third quarter.

DeKalb held Moose to zero points in the first half. Moose tallied 12 second-half points to lead the Bluejays in scoring.

Madi Dittemore led the Tigers with 12 points, all coming on 3-pointers.

The following day West Platte dropped a KCI game 53-26 at Plattsburg.

After the West Platte-North Platte showdown, the Bluejays are back at home on Thursday, Jan. 7 vs. Central Academy.
