Max Davies repeated as the champion of the St. Mary’s Classic, held on Saturday, Sept. 1, at St. Michael’s the Archangel High School in Lee’s Summit, Mo.
The West Platte senior ran 17:52 to win and beat teammate Phillip Pattison in the team’s first 5K race of the season.
Ryan Pattison, Zach Howerton, Matik Heskin, Zack Esther and Coy Taylor rounded out the varsity runners for the Bluejays, which took fourth in team standings.
In the first-year runner’s race, Miguel Roales-Lugo took eighth and Buyo Liu was 10th, both earning medals. Logan Webb and Mitchell Pennington also competed.
The West Platte girls took sixth in the meet, matching last year’s finish.
Sophia Rush was ninth and Lexi Elmore took 10th, with a four-second gap between the two. Lindsay Goodwin took 32nd, while Lea Moose was 41st, running in her first race where softball didn’t cause a conflict. Bella Clark and Katie Tharp rounded the varsity runners.
Katy Groom was third and Olivia Marquart was eighth in the first-year runner’s race.
The Bluejays will run next in the Ray-Pec meet on Saturday, Sept. 8.
North Platte 2-miler
The inaugural North Platte 2-miler was held on Tuesday, Aug. 28 in Camden Point, Mo.
North Platte and West Platte combined for four of the top 10 runners in the girls race, but without seven runners neither qualified for the team title that St. Joseph Christian won.
North Andrew’s Malayna Briner won the race in 13:48.3, while two Christian runners were in the top five.
Sophia Rush (fourth) and Lexi Elmore (sixth) led the way for West Platte. Freshman Olivia Marquart took 18th in her first race.
Jenna Cassity and Savannah Lingle were ninth and 10th, respectively, for the Panthers. Maddie O’Neill was 14th for North Platte.
On the boys side, West Platte’s Max Davies had little troubles picking up the win and guiding the Bluejays to a team championship.
West Platte had 43 points, nine ahead of North Platte in the nine-team field.
Davies, a senior, ran 11:15.3 to win by 42 seconds, besting Mound City’s Zane Zembles. Phillip Pattison (third), Zach Howerton (13th), Matik Heskin (14th) and Ryan Pattison (15th) helped comprise the team score. Isaac Helmich, Coy Tyalor, Zack Esther, Boyu Liu, Miguel Lago and Mitchell Pennington also ran for West Platte.
Tyler Meadows took fourth to lead North Platte, while Zach Lee (seventh) and Danny Fleshman (11th) also had top-15 finishes. Also running for the Panthers was: Jakob Scroggins (16th), Tyler Davis (18th), Chase Bridger (21st), Joe Demarcus, Jace Stubbs, Jayden Brooks, Jacob Wright and Gabe Boodlet.
