North Platte returned to basketball action and began the 2019 portion of its schedule by snapping a five-game losing streak.
The Panthers did so by stopping North Andrew late with a 42-38 non-conference result on Wednesday, Jan. 2 in Rosendale.
McKenzie Brockhoff led North Platte with a 20-point effort. Grace Rice added 14 points.
Both sides started slow as North Andrew held a 9-7 lead after the first quarter and a 19-18 halftime advantage.
The Cardinals owned a 34-31 lead headed into the four quarter, but the Panthers held the home side to four points in the final frame, while scoring 11 points for the four-point victory.
Jentry Copple led North Andrew with 16 points.
Lawson 42, North Platte 25
Taylor Dolt poured in a game-high 25 points to lead Lawson to a KCI victory over North Platte on Friday, Jan. 4.
The Panthers (4-6) didn’t crack double digits in any of the quarters. North Platte trailed 12-9 after the first quarter, 19-15 at halftime and 28-19 through three quarters.
Brockhoff and Rice led North Platte with eight points apiece.
The Panthers opened play in the Lawson Invitational on Tuesday against Richmond. Depending on the result, North Platte will play either Wednesday or Thursday. Results were unavailable by press time.
Trenton 66, West Platte 21
Maci Moore tallied 25 points to lead top-seeded Trenton past No. 8 West Platte in the opening round of the 25th annual Lawson Invitational on Monday, Jan. 7 at Lawson High School.
Moore poured in 12 points in the first quarter to put Bulldogs ahead 21-4 after the first quarter. The Bulldogs, ranked No. 5 in Class 3, led 39-6 at halftime.
Lea Moose led West Platte with 10 points and a made 3-pointer.
West Platte (0-7) plays the North Platte-Richmond loser at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday in Lawson.
Lathrop 39, West Platte 25
West Platte dropped to 0-2 in KCI play with a home loss to Lathrop on Friday, Jan. 4.
Lathrop held West Platte to two points in the first quarter and six in the second frame to take a 17-8 lead into the locker room. The Mules held on for their first KCI victory of the season.
The Bluejays got 11 points from Moose, while Emily Youtsey led the Mules with 13 points.
