Having never lost a wrestling match up to this point and being a three-time state champion, Park Hill South senior Maddie Kubicki is the centerpiece for the Lady Trojans’ squad.
In her 111 career matches at Park Hill South ahead of her senior campaign, Kubicki has never lost and consistently pins her opponent. After becoming a state champion in the 135-weight class her freshman year, the prolific wrestler has done so in the 141-weight class in 2021 and 2022 with the aspirations of being a rare four-time state champion when this season concludes.
“She has done an outstanding job this season of recruiting and giving back to the team,” Park Hill South girls’ wrestling coach Bradley Jones said. “As a team captain, she makes the coach’s life much easier and is a true help on and off the mat helping the other girls achieve their best.”
Aniya Coleman is the Lady Panthers’ other senior, captain and returning state qualifier. Last year, the 100-pound wrestler went 2-2 at state.
“We’re looking for Aniya to be on the podium at the state competition. She trained hard in the off-season with free style wrestling that will give her that edge on the others,” Jones said.
While Park Hill South has a small senior class, there are five juniors that are looking to step up as role models. The Lady Panthers are looking to improve throughout the season to have more state qualifiers when the time comes.
“Anna Katz, Lucia Henriquez and Mylee Lentz are not only great leaders in the room but are looking to make a vast improvement from last season. They each have a goal to be competing at the state tournament,” Jones said.
