With two matches left in the regular season, the West Platte volleyball team (11-10-4) took second place in the Sherwood Tournament on Oct. 8.
The Lady Blue Jays opened up the tournament with two straight victories and then a 1-1 tie with Knob Noster (9-11-1) when West Platte won set one 25-23 and lost set two 25-18. The Lady Blue Jays swept Holden (9-3) and Drexel (18-3) in two sets each and entered tournament play.
In the semifinals, West Platte matched up with Northland Christian (8-13-1) and took care of business as the Lady Blue Jays swept in two sets by winning 25-20 and 25-9 to advance to the championship. West Platte played the home team – Sherwood (17-4-1) – and came up short in two sets as the Lady Blue Jays lost by scores of 25-16 and 25-22.
Ahead of the Sherwood Tournament, the Lady Blue Jays were coming off three wins in their last four matches. Two of the victories were against KCI Conference teams as West Platte took down Mid-Buchanan (14-12-1) in five sets on Sept. 29 and swept Plattsburg (4-13-2) on Oct. 6.
West Platte will have two more matches ahead of the postseason at Lawson (18-2) on Oct. 13 and at North Platte (2-16-1) on Oct. 18. The Lady Blue Jays will head into the Class 2 District 16 Tournament as the No. 4 seed and will start off with a matchup with Mid-Buchanan on Oct. 22 at East Buchanan High School.
