NORTH KANSAS CITY – The only team that Platte County (5-6) lost to in the North Kansas City Girls’ Soccer Tournament was the eventual champion as Kearney (6-6) came out on top in the semifinals on April 19.
The tournament was played at Staley High School and Platte County started with a matchup against Oak Park (8-3), which resulted with a 1-0 win on April 18. Platte County fell 2-0 to Kearney next to advance to the third-place game.
The Lady Pirates bounced back when they beat Harrisonville (6-6-1) 2-0 on April 20. The Lady Wildcats have now lost the lost four in the series, being outscored 10-1 in those losses.
Saige Dickens struck first, bringing in a corner kick from Brooklynne Jenni and Platte County led 1-0 at the break. Rylee Burris put the game away with a goal in the 64th minute.
Since the sluggish 0-4 start, Platte County has recovered and nearly fought back to .500. The only other loss since then came to the hands of Grain Valley (11-3) on April 11.
Platte County also had a notable 3-0 win over St. Joseph’s Central (5-7) on April 15. The Lady Indians had an own goal in the 54th minute in addition to scores by Jenni and Burris as the game was called a few minutes shy of 80 due to lightning.
