Lake Waukomis has reopened to residents after a sewer leak forced its closure last week.
On Monday, Oct. 9, the Lake Waukomis Homeowners Association issued the all clear for residents to use the lake as testing samples came back within normal levels.
On Thursday, Sept. 28 the HOA was notified of a sewer pump failure and that it was possible the lake could be contaminated. The lake was closed to swimming, boating and all other recreational activity pending testing. According to a notice posted Saturday by the homeowners association, Kansas City staff were testing the water for contaminants and high levels were found over that weekend.
The lake was reopened to boating Tuesday, Oct. 3 but residents were still urged to limit direct exposure to water, including keeping pets clear of the lake water.
