Leavenworth man dies in Hwy. 92 crash

A 55-year-old Leavenworth, Kan. man died July 30 in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 92 near Hackberry Road.

At about 5:15 p.m., the Platte County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene. The crash occurred as a 1995 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Craig Cooper was traveling westbound on Hwy. 92. The pickup crossed into the eastbound land and collided with a 1996 Peterbilt tractor trailer. The driver of the Chevrolet pickup died at the scene.

The driver of the Peterbilt was not injured.

Initial investigation showed the deceased individual was not wearing a seat belt. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash, which is still under investigation.
