A Platte City man was sentenced to 19 years in prison on Friday, Oct. 4 for creating and possessing child pornography and molesting a child.
Timothy D. Lowery received the sentence after pleading guilty to sexual exploitation of a minor, two counts of possession of child pornography, and child molestation in the third degree.
“This child predator was brought to justice because a brave child had the courage to tell a school teacher what was happening,” Platte County Prosecuting Attorney Eric Zahnd said. “I hope any other child or adult who has suffered abuse will find the strength to report what has happened to them.”
Following that disclosure at school, the child completed a forensic interview at Synergy Services. During that interview, the child more fully disclosed being molested and revealed the defendant took nude photographs.
Based on that information, authorities obtained a search warrant, and images of the child victim were found on the defendant’s phone.
“This defendant sexually abused a child and collected images of that abuse,” Zahnd said. “Images of child sexual abuse are not merely pictures. On the contrary, every such picture documents horrific sexual abuse, and we’ll do everything we can to ensure those who make or share those images spend substantial time in prison.”
This case was investigated by the Excelsior Springs Police Department and the Platte County Sheriff’s Department. It was prosecuted by Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Michelle Rioux.
