WESTON – In the aftermath of leading the West Platte volleyball team to three district championship appearances in her time there, senior Maddie McMillan signed to continue her academic and athletic career at Peru State College in Nebraska.
This fall, McMillan surpassed 1,000 career assists and 500 career digs as she led West Platte to a 17-9-3 record. She finished her senior campaign with 630 of the Lady Blue Jays’ 750 assists.
“It has been a pleasure to watch Maddie on the court throughout her high school career,” West Platte athletic director Ryan Nichols said. “Her performance not only in volleyball but also the classroom landed Maddie a variety of scholarship offers, but in late October Maddie said it became clear to her that one school stood out among the rest.”
McMillan ended her final year at West Platte with 55 aces, 85 kills and 189 digs. She decided to attend Peru State after going to camps there as well as her relationship with the head coach and connection with the current players.
At Peru State, McMillan plans to study Sports Management and will minor in coaching – leaving the door open to either coaching or a job on the business side of athletics. At West Platte, McMillan has also been involved in basketball, track and field, FCA, FCCLA and NHS.
