A Platte County woman has been charged with a misdemeanor after keeping her child out of school without apparent cause for most of the school year.
The child is a student at Chinn Elementary School in the Park Hill School District and the mother, Amber Losure, was charged Monday, June 3 with a violation of the educational requirement of a child. Losure is set to appear in court on Tuesday, July 2.
When a Platte County deputy and a school social worker visited the home in late 2023, Losure said she wasn’t sending the child to school because “she wanted to.” The child had missed 35 days in the first semester of the school year and 63 days in the previous semester. The district had tried to contact Losure several times regarding the child’s attendance and had provided information on home schooling but had not received notice of enrollment in a home schooling program.
The deputy reported in court papers that Losure presented a flight risk as she had previously enrolled the child in an Olathe, Kan. school and had exhibited the same behavior of not taking the child to school.
