Norris, Hamilton post 1-2 mark at state tennis championship

The tennis career for one of Park Hill South’s best players came to an end on Friday, Oct. 25 in Springfield.

The doubles team of Chloe Norris and Vivien Hamilton went 1-2 at the MSHSAA Tennis State Championships at the Cooper Tennis Complex.

Both of the losses came against teams that brought home medals from the two-day event.

Norris, a senior, finished with more than 100 wins in her career and will look to move onto the collegiate ranks. Hamilton, a freshman, will take the torch as the Panthers’ top player next year after being No. 2 behind Norris this fall.

Park Hill South’s tandem won the district and sectional crown but got matched up with Morgan McKinnis and Shannon Sims of St. Joseph’s Academy and lost 6-2 and 6-4.

Sims, a part of last year’s state runner-up team, was again part of a runner-up finish this year as this doubles team lost in an all-St. Joseph’s finals.

Hamilton and Norris bounced back with an 8-2 win against Gabrielle St. Jean and Kayleigh Leahy of Fort Zumwalt West in the consolation bracket.

Then, the season came to an end with an 8-1 loss to Mary Hose and Corinne Farid of Columbia Rock Bridge in the consolation quarterfinals.

Farid and Hose took fifth place and the only loss came against the doubles champions.

Farid was the Class 2 singles champion last year, beating Park Hill South’s Eva Kresovic.
