The spring girls’ soccer season has had two different starts for Park Hill South (8-0) and Park Hill (1-7) who matched up on April 4.
With the Lady Panthers being undefeated so far and the Lady Trojans currently on a 5-game losing skid, Park Hill South came out with a 4-2 victory when they met. Olivia Clemons started the game off with an early goal to put Park Hill South up 1-0.
Park Hill sophomore Paige Barry tied the game up, but Clemons added another score to put the Lady Panthers back on top. Once again, Park Hill fought back, tying the game at 2-2 with a goal by Allison Estanich, but it was unable to get back on the board.
Suzi Shulze and Taylor Hild both scored down the stretch to help Park Hill South pull out the 4-2 win. Park Hill South now has three consecutive wins over Park Hill, with a score margin of 15-3.
Park Hill has had some offensive struggles early, being shut out four times in the opening eight games. After beating Pembroke Hill (3-4) 5-0 in the first game of the MO-KAN Tournament, Park Hill was shut out 5-0 in its next two contests to take fourth place.
The Lady Trojans’ next three opponents had more wins than losses, starting with a contest against Blue Springs South (6-2) on April 3. Ella Nelson had the lone Park Hill score in the 4-1 loss.
Park Hill took on Park Hill South next before falling 2-0 to Lee’s Summit (4-1) on April 6. This is the second consecutive spring that the Lady Trojans have started off slow – losing the first eight games of 2022 before finishing 5-8 in the back end of the regular season – but will look to turn things around.
After the 2-goal triumph over Park Hill, Park Hill South took St. Teresa’s Academy (2-3-1) to overtime on April 6. Mya Quarles assisted Clemons in the 21st minute and Park Hill South went into the break with a 1-0 lead.
St. Teresa’s Academy tied the contest late in regulation with a penalty kick in the 75th minute. Anna Bolger scored the game-winning goal in overtime – on a pass from Clemons – to extend the Lady Panthers’ perfect start to the season.
Park Hill South will host Lee’s Summit (4-1) on April 13. Park Hill will head to Liberty (7-3) on the same day.
